Garth Mountain

Garth Mountain is the first mountain you encounter on your way from the South Wales coast going North. It lies in the Taff Vale with the village of Pentyrch on one side. OS map

The Garth has a number of tumuli on its top (satellite view of the Garth). These date from the early to middle bronze age, around 2000 BC. They are burial sites. (Video showing the Tumuli)

A  book was written about "Ffynnon Garw" which was made into a film 'The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a mountain'. The location of Ffynnon Garw rather implies it is The Garth. This story is a good one but fictional.

To set the record straight the Pentyrch History Society and Community Council have put up an information notice near the summit.
